The jobs and moon plantings stay the same.

Jobs to do in July

o         Compost – keep compost piles damp and turned often

o         Compost – turn your compost and start a new pile

o         Compost – mulch to suppress weeds and conserve water

o         Cuttings – take cuttings of tender perennial herbs

o         Fertilize – feed actively growing plants with fish emulsion

o         Fertilize – feed cabbages and leafy vegetables every 2-3 weeks with diluted solutions of liquid fertilizer and seaweed extract

o         Fertilize – feed pawpaw with chook pellets, prune, water and mulch.  Add handful of lime monthly

o         Harvest – root vegetables and fruit for storage in 3rd quarter

o         Harvest – tomatoes and peppers before frosts, pumpkins and winter squash when skins are hard.

o         Harvest – pick herbs at mid morning for drying

o         Maintenance – plan garden projects such as raised beds and drip irrigation

o         Pests – watch for citrus bronze orange bug and spray with natural pyrethrum or knock into a bucket of soapy water

o         Pests – Bait and trap for pests early in the season and clean up their hiding places

o         Pests – wash aphids off new growth with hose

o         Pests – watch for fruit fly on tomatoes and capsicums and cover with exclusion bags

o         Prune – pinch off strawberry runners

o         Prune – grape pruning must finish this month

o         Prune – prune fig tree by 2/3rds to promote new growth for next season’s fruit crop

o         Prune – thin fruit trees, support limbs bearing heavy crops, prune citrus
