The topic for Club Night in September is Food Waste!
Food waste is a growing problem in Australia with an estimated 1 in 5 bags of groceries ending up in land fill. If food waste was a country, it would be the third biggest emitter of greenhouse gases after USA and China. A local project is set to help change this! Emily Boyd is the Coordinator of the Food Waste Loop community composting project at Yandina Community Gardens. The project diverts food ‘waste’ from Yandina’s food businesses into compost systems, creating a localised waste management system. Partnering with cafes, restaurants, coffee roastery’s, and grocery stores they divert the town’s waste into three different compost systems. The project records how much of Yandina’s town waste is processed using their systems and evaluates the viability of the Food Waste Loop program to be replicated by communities across Australia. Eliminating global food waste would save 4.4 million tonnes of C02 a year, the equivalent of taking one in four cars off the road. A worthy project and we can’t wait to hear more from Emily

October Club Night – Tuesday October 5th
Long time member and favourite author Leonie Shanahan is stopping by to talk to us about growing healthy nutritious food. She’ll also share some insights into her new book and her very personal journey with Lyme Disease. This will be a very special evening, so mark it in your diary!
Permaculture Noosa monthly meetings are held at the Cooroy Memorial Hall on the 1st Tuesday of each month. Doors open at 6:00 pm, when a market takes place, where we share surplus home grown produce and plants by giving, exchanging, or selling. At 6:30 pm our presentation begins which includes an interesting guest speaker each month.
Entry is a $5 donation for non-members. There is no charge for members.
Do consider bringing friends or neighbours to our meetings. It’s how we grow the group and may be inspiring to them as well. As always, you will leave the meeting better informed!
